This series is an excellent supplement to the standard Suzuki violin repertoire. The solos supply welcome variety and, like etudes, introduce or enhance skills beyond the demands of the Suzuki pieces. With a good teacher, this series can round out the progression of skilled young violinists.Of particular note, since the reviews are confused or conflicting on this point, I can confirm that my order of this item, Solos for Young Violinists, Vol 2, includes two books (1) the piano part (with the violin part in smaller notation above it), and (2) a separate violin part for the soloist. It does not come with the CD, of course, which must be ordered separately.
This copy of the book contains both a book for the violin part alone, and a book containing piano and violin. The music is good for a higher level intermediate to go scooting through the book for fun. My kids both like the music inside - they are high level intermediates with strong vibrato for your reference. They are using the book as a break from more challenging pieces so they can work on technique - one is working on his left hand positioning, the other on right hand bow technique. This book is fun enough to draw their interest, easy enough to allow them to learn the pieces rapidly and pay attention to improving their technique, and pleasant enough for me as the mom to listen to.There is a CD available for the songs in this book that allow you to play along - one version is both piano and violin to get the ear of the piece, and the other is just the piano party you can play along with.Highly recommended.

Material seemed to be great. The only think I'd say is, know what you are buying. I thought I was purchasing the violin and piano part. The Piano part only came. Although, I can read the tiny violin part, it would be great to have the violin part by itself. Plus it would be less pages, bigger notes.
I was a little worried when I read others’ review about missing violin only book, but decided to put an order anyway. I received the package with two books, violin & piano book and violin only book. Very good price and nice books!
I had some concerns after reading others' previous reviews that they received a part of the set but I ordered it. It came with the two books as a set (the violin book + the violin and piano combined book), which was exactly what I was looking for. The book has a nice combination of the level and the depth that young violinists can get to. Very pleased with the purchase!
Volume 2 was missing the violin only book. These typically come with two books, but we only received the one that included the piano accompaniment.
Very confusing, I wish I had read the previous reviews and had avoided the same problem as other people. I was wanting the Violin part only not the piano accompany part. I can't seem to get the right book, and the seller say they sent the correct book, but it was listed under the violin part NOT the piano/violin book. It is very difficult to play the violin part on the small line about the piano parts. Very disappointing.
